Before typing any private or sensitive information, please take a moment to think about whether someone else may have access to this computer or device. Abusers will often monitor their partner’s online activity by installing spyware, checking their internet browsing history, using keyloggers, and/or with other hacking methods. This can be done if the abuser has access to your device, if you are on the same Wi-Fi network, or by sending you bad links or files. If you think that your connection might not be private then it probably isn’t. You may want to use a different device, go to a public library, or find another way to reach out for help. Especially if the abuser seems to be aware of your browsing history or of conversations that you might have had over email or messaging, this can be a sign that your computer is being monitored.
